The University of Pittsburgh Office of Child Development is seeking a qualified Developmental Specialist with a background in psychology, early childhood education, early intervention or a related field based in the Greater Philadelphia area. This is a part time position with flexible hours, primarily in the mornings. The Specialist will provide on-site classroom consultation in infant and toddler classrooms in Philadelphia, PA. The candidate will support inclusion of children using a tiered model of promotion, prevention, and intervention for children through culturally responsive practice, collaborative consultation and authentic assessment tools.
Job responsibilities will primarily include but are not limited to the following: Promote classroom wide social-emotional competencies by demonstrating and modeling to increase capacity of educators/caregivers, Build positive relationships, create supportive environments, prevent and effectively respond to challenging behaviors, Observe classroom environments and offer actionable feedback to improve teacher-child interactions, routines, and behavioral support, Guide educators in implementing tiered social emotional learning (SEL) model (promotion, prevention, intervention), Support the mental health and well-being of all, Collaborate with childcare staff and families to build social emotional skills of children, Complete necessary documentation in a timely manner.
Job Summary
Provides targeted, tiered psychological supports and related assessments, consultations, and intervention services and uses results to guide tiered supports and interventions. Conducts small group and individualized therapeutic and social skills interventions and oversees interagency meetings for support services and/or next steps. Facilitates professional development and education, writes annual program reports, designs data collection methods to track progress and impact, and participates in research and interdisciplinary teamwork and collaboration.
Essential Functions
Provides targeted, tiered psychological supports and related assessment/consultation/intervention services; uses results to guide tiered supports/interventions. Develops trusting, supportive relationships through regular onsite consultation. Conducts small group and individual therapeutic and social skills interventions utilizing evidence-based curricula. Oversees interagency meetings regarding recommendations for next steps: intervention, additional assessments, and/or support services. Develops and provides professional development and education for professionals in collaboration with team to encourage responsive relationships and social emotional learning. Designs data collection methods to measure and track the progress and impact of supports on children and caregivers, ensuring alignment with best practice regulations. Participates in research, interdisciplinary teamwork, and collaborative problem solving. Writes annual program reports.
Physical Effort
Light- Max lifting of up to 20 lbs. With frequent lifting/carrying of up to 10 lbs. or an eligible amount; significant walking or standing may be required or may involve sitting with a degree of pushing and pulling.
