Department Overview
The OHSU Department of Emergency Medicine (DEM) is seeking a part-time physician to join our team at Hillsboro Medical Center (HMC).
HMC is a traditional community emergency department, managing over 31,000 patient visits annually. Located on the west side of Portland/Hillsboro in an agricultural region, the ED serves a diverse patient population, including a large Latino and pediatric community. HMC is a stroke center and features a cardiac catheterization lab, providing comprehensive care to the surrounding region. The hospital is undergoing significant transformation, with many OHSU Marquam Hill departments now providing specialty services onsite, creating a unique academic-community blend. Upper-level emergency medicine, internal medicine, and family medicine residents rotate through the ED, contributing to a rich teaching environment.
The department has a dedicated team of physicians and advanced practice providers (APPs). There are seven daily physician shifts averaging 8 hours each and one daily 10-hour shift. APP staffing supports the department with structured daily coverage.
In February 2023, HMC opened a 10-bed observation unit, managed by OHSU DEM. The unit provides ongoing care for ED patients with anticipated stays of 848 hours for adults aged 18 and older. Patients are cared for by an interdisciplinary team including RNs, NPs, PAs, technicians, and physicians. The observation unit is supported by a full spectrum of clinical services, with attending physicians available 24/7. Leadership includes a Unit Medical Director and an APP Unit Assistant Medical Director, with APP staffing of 6.5 FTE across three daily 8-hour shifts.
The appointee will provide clinical services as assigned by the supervisor in support of the university's missions of teaching, research, patient care, outreach, and public service. Duties of this position directly support the goals and objectives of OHSU and the School of Medicine, contributing to high-quality care, education, and research initiatives.
